In this sermon, Sam Allberry highlights the essence of Christian leadership through servanthood, inspired by Jesus’ example. Unlike worldly leaders who seek power for self-gain, true authentic leadership, as demonstrated by Jesus in Mark 10:35-45, is about serving others selflessly. Just as shepherds protect and care for their flock, we’re called to lead with humility, prioritizing the well-being of others over personal ambition. Let His example guide your leadership, transforming your heart and those around you.

In this sermon, Wesley Fredericks unravels the miracles and messages in John 6, intertwining the physical with the spiritual. By feeding thousands from scant provisions, Jesus shows He's the source of endless spiritual nourishment. Walking on water, He demonstrates His mastery over fears and storms in life. Yet, when seekers pursue Him for more miracles, Jesus redirects their hunger for transient things to hunger for eternal life through faith in Him. He underscores the essence of belief in Him as the true work God desires, contrasting the pursuit of worldly satisfaction with the profound sustenance He offers—the Bread of Life. Fredericks compellingly invites us to examine our own 'apple crumble'—those ephemeral substitutes we chase, urging us to find our ultimate fulfilment in the eternal provision of Christ.

In this sermon, Sam Allberry articulates the essence of discipleship through the lens of Mark 10, underscoring Jesus’ promise of abundant life despite the sacrifices. Like leaving one’s home on a foggy day only to find unimagined warmth and community elsewhere, followers of Christ are called to leave behind familiar comforts and identities, including those tied to sexuality, for a deeper, divine intimacy that transcends earthly relationships. Jesus doesn’t just call for sacrifice; He offers a "hundredfold” now—rich, godly relationships and eternal life later. Allberry challenges churches to mirror this promise, transforming into sanctuaries where everyone, regardless of past, finds clarity, compassion, and a new, vibrant community. It’s a call to embody Jesus’ comforting assurance to the lost and seeking: His family always has room and abundant love. This is the essence of the Gospel—a journey from loss to unparalleled gain in Christ, rallying believers to become active participants in fulfilling Jesus’ grand promise of belonging and purpose.

In this interview, Sam Allberry discusses the Christian journey’s challenges, emphasizing the importance of aligning our desires with Jesus’ teachings and how this influences our interactions and understanding of Christianity. He points out that a fresh perspective on faith can rekindle the excitement within long-time believers, comparing it to seeing a familiar city through a visitor’s eyes. Allberry addresses the complex issue of same-sex attraction, distinguishing between temptation and sin and the biblical call to resist sinful desires while navigating temptations faithfully. He stresses the importance of understanding love Biblically, beyond romantic love, to appreciate the multifaceted ways God’s love manifests in relationships within the church. Furthermore, Allberry talks about singleness in Christianity, highlighting the value and challenges of being single and encouraging every single person to maximise their life within this season for Jesus. Lastly, he addresses the topic of transgenderism and the use of transgender pronouns with wisdom and sensitivity, advocating for a balanced approach that fosters relationships and evangelism without compromising Biblical principles.

In this talk, Sam Allberry dives deep into the question, “Why does God care who I sleep with?”. A question as compelling as this is both personal and, for many, painful. He shares his journey of discovering his sexuality and how he grappled with it upon embracing Christianity. Through the lens of Matthew 5:27-28 and the more profound teachings of Jesus, Sam explores the sacredness of sexuality beyond mere physicality. It’s about heart attitudes, not just actions. God’s design for sex within marriage is a picture of self-giving rather than self-fulfilment. Jesus, by dying on the cross, makes a way for genuine satisfaction in a relationship with Him over any earthly pleasure. This union with Christ is likened to a marriage, offering ultimate fulfilment beyond any romantic or sexual experience.
Sam Allberry persuades listeners to see their longing for sexual and romantic fulfilment as a signpost to a more profound need - knowing God. He emphasizes that true satisfaction lies in our relationship with our Creator, not in our sexual or marital status. By pointing to Jesus as the bridegroom who loves, desires, and pursues us, Sam encourages everyone to consider where true fulfilment is found. His message invites us to rethink our attitudes towards sexuality, viewing it through the lens of God’s love and design, leading us closer to the heart of the Gospel.

Jubilee is a Christian church centred on the Bible and working out our faith in the context of community. We meet together on Sundays and in small mid-week meetings in homes around the city. Our desire is to strengthen both individuals and Cape Town as a whole and to build reconciliation, especially where we have, in the past, been divided. We aim to create the context for relationships across age, race and socio-economic boundaries.
